SLEEP RESOURCES

The issue of sleep (or lack there of ) has come up in so many of my conversations with girlfriends lately I felt compelled to share what little information I have on this issue.

I will fully admit that from the get-go with Roo (our now 3 1/2 year old) I was horrible at establishing good sleep habits. The first 3  months Roo and I slept on the couch and I cherished every moment of quality sleep I got.  By the time I returned to work I was sick of sleeping on the couch and longed to have some sort of regular sleep schedule. First we established a bedtime routine that was short and to the point. Next was sleep training.  Not a 'fun process" but it worked and she soon learned to self soothe and get herself back to sleep. I am happy to report that at 3.5 she has a wonderful sleep schedule and solid sleep habits.

With #2 I was determined from the get go to set myself up for success rather then failure.  As luck would have it Razor proved to be an easygoing child, who adapted quite well to his big sisters sleep schedule. Oh course we have had a few speed bumps along the way, like getting his arms and legs stuck in crib railings, but for the most  part I am happy with the way we have 'succeed" in establishing good sleep habits from the get go.

Here are my recommendations on the subject.

At one end of the parenting spectrum.

In the middle of the spectrum.....

and at the other end......(we used this with Abbie and it worked, but was not fun!)

And just a really enjoyable book on the subject. She is from MN and if you ever get a chance to hear her speak I highly recommend it.
