Coupons- Back On The Bandwagon

My Face book post earlier this week:

Back on the coupon bandwagon. Saved $111.17 today at Target, Lunds and Rainbow. Spent $139.21 on two weeks worth of food, a month worth of diapers, and household products. Some great organic deals this week!

Tons of friend wanted to know how I did it. So here is what I put together.

1. Target
Target allows you to pair a target coupon with a manufactures coupon on the same item.

So for instance this week……
I had a target coupon for $2 off any 2 Kraft items. So I then used 2 manufactures coupons as well.
I bought 2 A-1 Steak Sauces @2.59 a piece

$5.18 price
-2.00 Target Coupon
-.75 manufacturers
-.75 manufacturers
Total price for 2 bottles=  $1.68

Same goes for diapers (which can be a great deal when they offer the $5 gift card)

Huggies Jumbo packs  $8.99 buy 3 get $5 gift card

$26.97 (3 packs)
$6 Target Coupons (I had 3 $2 off coupons from register check out)
$6.50 (manufacturer $2, $2, $2.50)
Total = $14.47
Plus $5 gift card at check out
Total for 3 pack $9.47. (80-100 diapers depending on size)

I recommend signing up for targets mobile coupons, online coupons, watch them mail, etc. Oh and SAVE those check out coupons. You can tell it is a Target coupon right on top of the coupon.
Here is my favorite site for matching target coupons up to the weekly deals:

www.pocketyourdollars.com

2. Rainbow

On Wednesday and Saturday Rainbow will double your first 5 coupons up to a face value of $1 after you spend $25.

This can be a great deal also.

So this week they had Ken’s salad dressing on sale. For $1.50 (not me favorite brand for eating, but great for marinades)

I had a $1.00 coupon, which I used on Wednesday so this product was free (and the paid me .50 )

If  I have more then 5 coupons that I want doubled I will purchase the first $25 worth of food (5 coupons) and check out. That way I save $10 (if each coupon has a face value of $1.00)
I will make a second trip in and purchase $25 more of groceries and use the 5 other coupons. $10 again (hopefully)

Seem like a pain, but it really is not that much more time consuming and I save $20 on a $50 grocery bill (best case)

3. Lunds

I only usually shop here is they have their Buy one get one sale going on.

This week they do and I scored big!
Pork tenderloin on sale for 9.99 (for 2 marinated roasts) I had 2 $1 off coupons.
So for 7.99 I got 2 pork tenderloins

Also scored on chocolate milk
BOGO 1.59/ apiece
I had 2 $1 off coupons (that made the final price .59 per half gallon of Land O lake Chocolate Milk

I have not found a good site that matches these, but it took me 5 minutes to figure the best deals out there this week.

4. Tips

The red plum and smart source coupons that you find in the Sunday paper now comes to my house in the weekly junk mail. Not sure about this in other areas.

I organize the coupons by writing they date of the coupon publication in big letters on the first page. You can find this in tiny print on the side. Many of the sites refer to the publication date so this is very useful.

I only cut out the coupons that I plan on using based on the match up sites and then print off any online coupons I need. Links are usually provided on the sites listed above. For those coupons that require personal information such as an e-mail address I have a dummy yahoo account I use so my person e-mail stays spam free.

I organize them into plain white envelopes labeled for each store. For the Target items I match up the manufacturer coupon with the target coupon ahead of time.

I list all the items I plan on buying at Target (or rainbow) on the front of the envelope. I mark those items that have coupons associated with them with an *

Ok…I think that is it. Last week it took me less than an hour and I did it watching  TV.

Taking The Plunge

Why a blog?
Blog...huh...maybe....why not...really a blog? These are the thoughts that keep jumping in and out of  my head at night when I should be sleeping. I'm a restless sleeper to begin with, but lately this idea of starting a blog to "organize" those thoughts has kept me up at night. So here we go. I'm officially blogging.

Disclaimers.....

1. I am not a writer nor do I  pretend to have a mastery of the English language. I will not use the following words correctly then & than, there and their, where and were (just to name a few) So if this is going to bother you this is not the site for you.

2. Ask anyone who loves me and they will tell you I can not spell. I will do  my best to triple check all of my postings before going live, but something is bound to slip by me.

What will I be blogging about.
Any and all issues that are important to me, my family & friends right now. (Disclaimer #3: these will not be earth shattering topics)

Current pages/ ideas are:
* Cabin Fever...aka...what the hell am I going to do with these kids today. If I spend one more hour in my house I might go crazy
* Out & About- Kid friendly places (triple tested to ensure the friendly part)
* Parenting- Honestly what current crisis is happening at my house or with my friends that we are FB each other about.
* Recipes- time saving, kid friendly.

Being a type A I tend to hoard e-mails, website links and other information. So you can expect to see tons of resource information in the near future.
